Mental Health Advisory Council

Dr. Andrea Boyd is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Duke University and her Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.  She has worked in a variety of settings (university counseling center, medical center, community mental health agency, and private practice) with clients of all ages. Andrea’s clinical interests include AD/HD, anxiety and mood disorders, family and relationship difficulties.  

Chi Kim is the Chief Executive Officer of Pure Edge. Prior to joining the foundation, she served as a California school superintendent, school principal, leadership coach, classroom teacher, as well as, a program officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She is also co-founder of the Teaching Garden program that was adopted by the American Heart Association to support heart health through school gardens. Chi is an adjunct professor at UVA.Chi is a 2018 Pahara-Aspen Education Fellow, serves as the Board Chair & Trustee of the Ibis Group nonprofit board, a member of YouthBuild Global Board of Directors, Coalition for Career Development Center,  FairVote, and FECOP Board of Directors. She also serves on the national advisory councils of the COVID Collaborative, More Perfect, Multitudes UCSF Dyslexia Center, SEL4US, and  Project Wayfinder.

Dr. Valentina is the owner of Dr. Valentina, LLC, is a culturally-sensitive licensed Clinical Psychologist from  Chicago who performs therapy and neuropsychological testing in English and Spanish. Board-certified in  Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Dr. Valentina understands that in order to enact change at the  child and adolescent level, you must engage systems – including family, government and/or school.  

Although board certified as an expert in child and adolescent psychology, Dr. Valentina is a generalist  psychologist who serves children, teens, adults and seniors. Dr. Valentina has served in community health, hospitals, school, and child advocacy centers. She is now the owner of her own private practice  where she has 10 master- and doctoral-level clinicians, one of which is a doctor of nursing practice who  addresses vitamin and nutritional deficiencies and excess in clients to combat depression, anxiety,  inattention, hyperactivity, anger, sleep concerns and trauma impact. In addition, Dr. Valentina partnered  with several universities to serve as a training/externship site for their master- and doctoral-level students;  which provide mutual benefit to the master- and doctoral-level student and client alike. This protects  against the need for waitlists, at a time where stigma no longer plagues that heart of those interested in  seeking mental health services. 

Wallace Colvin is a psychotherapist at Five Point Holistic Health in Chicago, IL. He obtained his bachelor's in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University in 2017. He interned at the YWCA Kalamazoo, helping victims of domestic violence obtain shelter. He then obtained his Masters of Arts in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He completed his internship at SGA Youth and Family services, where he worked as a high school counselor. Wallace has been practicing in the field since 2022 and has practiced at several private practices in Chicago.

Brittany K. Swims is the Program Coordinator for the Hope Chicago Scholars Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), where she has served as the Campus Contact since the program’s inception. In this role, Brittany has worked closely with multiple cohorts of scholars, witnessing firsthand how their needs have evolved. Despite these changes, one constant has remained: the crucial importance of mental health and wellness in ensuring the success of students.

Brittany is a proud double alumnus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, holding a Bachelor’s in Political Science with a minor in Psychology and a Master’s in Social Work with a concentration in Health/Mental Health. Additionally, she is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, which complements her passion for supporting students' well-being. Brittany’s professional experience spans several areas, including serving as a Counselor in the Department of Corrections and as a Director of Operations at a Non-Profit Afterschool Program.

In addition to her work with the Hope Chicago Scholars Program, Brittany is actively engaged in the broader university community as a member of the SIUC Retention Team and the Presidential Task Force for the SIU Systems, where she collaborates on initiatives to improve student retention and success.

Bryanna Daniel, LCSW, is the International Expansion Specialist at the Kevin Love Fund, where she focuses on promoting global mental health initiatives. Bryanna received her Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Miami and her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California with a concentration on children, youth, and families. Bryanna is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida, and she has experience working in the non-profit and education sectors. Prior to joining the Kevin Love Fund education team, she worked as a high school mental health counselor and participated in Americorps while working at an after-school program. Bryanna gained international experience working abroad while volunteering in Embu, Kenya, where she taught English and art to elementary students.Bryanna's work is shaped by her commitment to support mental well-being and empower young people worldwide.

Michael Roy- Originally from Omaha, Michael has found a second home in Chicago. He is passionate about educational equity as well as well-being and has been working to advance equity and mental health resources in Chicago Public Schools since 2019. His primary research interests are healing justice, community well-being, race-based trauma, and minority stress. His interpersonal style is warm and humorous. When not at work or school, Michael adores spending time with friends, trying local coffee spots, and taking random day trips outside the city. He has an M.Ed in K-12 Community Engagement.
